Position Summary:
Adams State University seeks an Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management to lead the offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Registrar. The Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management plays a critical role in shaping the enrollment strategies and student recruitment efforts for the university. The ideal candidate has a thorough understanding of enrollment management best practices in higher education, particularly with first-generation, low-income, and first-time undergraduate student populations. The candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to student success and play a key role in implementing and executing the university's Strategic Enrollment Plan, recruitment strategies, and increasing conversion rates. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the successful candidate will lead a dynamic team in attracting, admitting, and retaining a diverse student body while aligning enrollment goals with the university's mission and strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership
  • Provide leadership and supervision to the offices of Admissions and Financial Aid, ensuring the successful implementation of recruitment strategies and admissions, awarding of scholarships and aid, and developing initiatives that advance the strategic enrollment plan and the university's strategic plan.
  • Provide leadership to the Office of the Registrar, ensuring maintenance of accurate student records, compliance with federal and state regulations, and facilitating registration and degree completion processes.
  • Chair the campus Enrollment Management steering committee and leadership group; facilitate working groups to advance specific enrollment initiatives focused on affordability, access, and equity.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for educational and community partners, including K-12 district leaders, non-profit partners, etc., to increase the matriculation of key student demographics.
  • Engage with state leaders to ensure compliance with state admissions and financial aid policies, and alignment to strategic state-wide initiatives.
2. Strategic Enrollment Planning:
  • Collaborate with university leadership to develop and implement comprehensive enrollment plans that support institutional goals and promote student success.
  • Analyze demographic trends, market research, and data analytics to identify opportunities for enrollment growth and market expansion.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of enrollment strategies and adjust tactics as needed to meet recruitment targets and enhance student diversity.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President for Graduate Studies to ensure strategies for undergraduate and graduate recruitment and retention, using consistent approaches, messaging, and branding of the university.
3. Student Recruitment and Outreach:
  • Lead recruitment initiatives targeting prospective and transfer students from diverse backgrounds, focusing on underserved and low-income populations, including Hispanic/Latino communities.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with K-12 schools, community colleges, and community organizations to facilitate seamless pathways to enrollment for underrepresented students.
  • Develop relationships with San Luis Valley high schools to facilitate and promote registration of high school concurrent students, direct admissions initiatives and other partnership opportunities.
  • Coordinate recruitment events, campus tours, and outreach activities to engage prospective students and their families in the university's academic programs and campus culture.
  • Collaborate with the campus community and academic units to ensure recruitment strategies align with program offerings and market/workforce demands. Monitor workforce data and provide timely responses to emerging trends.
  • In collaboration with PR/marketing, provide input in delivering a communication plan targeted toward the prospective student target markets.
4. Admissions and Application Process:
  • Oversee the admissions process from application submission to enrollment, ensuring timely and efficient processing of applications and admissions decisions.
  • Implement best practices in admissions and explore creative methods to attract new students, while addressing systemic barriers preventing access to higher education.
  • Collaborate with academic departments and faculty to establish admissions strategies and enrollment targets for individual programs and majors.
  • Develop strategies to identify and communicate with potential new student markets, such as adult learners and learners with some credits and no credential or degree.
5. Financial Aid and Scholarship Management:
  • Provide leadership and direction to the financial aid office in administering need-based and merit-based financial aid programs that support access and affordability for all students.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase scholarship opportunities for underrepresented and low-income students, including partnerships with external donors and foundations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations governing financial aid programs and student eligibility criteria.
6. Retention and Student Success Initiatives:
  • Partner with academic affairs, student affairs, housing, and other campus members to implement retention strategies and support services that promote student persistence and graduation.
  • Evaluate, recommend, implement, and assess approaches and technologies that advance student recruitment, retention, persistence, and completion.
  • Analyze student data and retention metrics to identify at-risk populations and implement targeted interventions to address barriers to student success.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs to foster a culture of student engagement and involvement through co-curricular programming, mentoring initiatives, and leadership development opportunities.
7. Compliance
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant federal, state, and accreditation regulations pertaining to undergraduate and graduate admission, tuition residency determinations, reporting, waivers, and other requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in enrollment management, admissions, or student recruitment at a postsecondary institution.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations, particularly Hispanic/Latino communities, in a rural or underserved setting.
Demonstrated leadership, supervision, and managerial skills with the ability to lead teams, collaborate across the university, and implement strategic initiatives.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, families, faculty, staff, and community members.
Knowledge of enrollment management best practices, data analysis techniques, and emerging trends in higher education.
Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher education and a passion for advancing access and opportunity for all students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in a relevant field.
5 years in a Director of Admissions or Enrollment Management position.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations in a rural or underserved setting.

The pay range for this position is $99,636-$113,340 commensurate with experience and education.
