Experience Minimum 1 year of psychiatric or behavioral health experience in the medical field Minimum of 1 year of experience as a clinical nurse in a medical inpatient/emergency department setting working with pediatric and adolescent patient populations Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred Preferred two to three years of clinical nurse experience Preferred experience in the emergency room setting Knowledge of normal/abnormal growth and development throughout the age continuum Previous experience with crisis management and de-escalation techniques and strategies Experience with and knowledge of the assessment, management and treatment of behavioral health patients is highly preferred Education Graduation from an accredited school of nursing Certification Summary Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact Completion of Marcus Crisis Prevention Program as a user and trainer within 90 days of hire Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be able to organize and manage multiple tasks Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills Must exhibit skills in coordination, delegation, and team collaboration Must exhibit abilities to use critical thinking and quick decision-making abilities Must show accountability for leadership and actions in an autonomous role Must be able to remain calm and manage verbal/physical responses in stressful situations Exhibit skills in establishing rapport and using therapeutic communication with others Job Responsibilities Practice (Caring for the Patient) Provides direct patient care in assessment, management, and treatment plan development for behavioral and mental health patients in crisis in the Emergency Department and other practice settings. Collaborates with Emergency Department and appropriate practice settings in providing medical stabilization and treatment according to scope of practice and training. Integrates values and language preferences into healthcare delivery through a culturally sensitive process. Utilizes clinical decision support tools and resources to recognize issues, prioritize care, and modify plan of care as needed. Ensures that appropriate documentation regarding care interventions, observation, medication administration, and monitoring is in place in accordance with policy and process identified. Participates in transfer of care; communicates any special considerations, care priorities, and support needs as appropriate. Complies and promotes compliance with all behavioral health related policies and guidelines to protect patient, self, and others from harm. Provides patient and family education appropriate for identified learning needs. Maintains patients’ rights, including the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Development (Fostering Clinical Knowledge) Participates in lifelong learning and incorporates new knowledge into nursing practice. Provides basic education and knowledge support to the care team surrounding mental and behavioral health diagnoses and supportive interventions. Maintains professional records and participates in goal planning related to performance review and professional development. Engagement (Engaging and Leading Professionally) Provides oversight and direction in treatment and interventions for the Behavioral Health Care Team including Mental Health Tech, patient safety sitters, and other care team members. Leads Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) responses and debriefs for crisis level patient behavior escalation. Shares information and collaborates with Behavioral Health Care Team members to ensure quality care coordination. Engages in ethical practices utilizing principles from The Code of Ethics for Nurses. Maintains therapeutic and professional relationships with appropriate role boundaries. Contributes to a supportive and healthy work environment. Demonstrates support of shared leadership through awareness of initiatives and providing input. Outcomes (Driving Excellent Results) Integrates evidence and research findings into clinical judgement and nursing practice. Participates in monitoring activities within work environment to maintain a culture of safety. Identifies and communicates hazards and errors. Participates in quality and process improvement activities to improve patient outcome and workflows. Ensures equipment is in working order to provide safe patient care. Demonstrates commitment and flexibility through times of change. Professional Mandatory Requirements Completes orientation and initial assessment of competency successfully by determined due date. Completes mandatory education and annual competency assessment requirements as defined by unit and system by due date. Achieves 75% of staff meetings if applicable.
