Description

The Q. William Hammack School of Business (HSB) at Oglethorpe University invites applications for a full-time, Assistant Professor of Economics position beginning fall 2024. An Assistant Professor typically teaches three courses per semester on a ten-month contract.

Founded in 1835, Oglethorpe University is a liberal arts college that unites a close-knit campus community with the big city culture and opportunities of Atlanta, Georgia. The Hammack School of Business offers the masters of business administration (MBA) and undergraduate majors in the areas of accounting, business administration, economics, business economics, human resource management, and management along with a minor in nonprofit management. Over 25% of all Oglethorpe undergraduates select a major within the HSB, making it one of the largest academic units on campus.

Qualifications


Minimum qualifications: A Ph.D. in economics from an AACSB accredited university is required. ADB candidates will be considered. Teaching experience is preferred.

High quality teaching is the expectation at Oglethorpe. The ideal candidate will be able to actively engage a diverse classroom of students using pedagogical techniques and methods appropriate for a teaching oriented liberal arts college. Candidates with fields in Environmental Economics and/or Labor Economics, or secondarily History of Economic Thought or Behavioral Economics, are encouraged to apply. The candidate should be prepared to teach multiple sections of traditional undergraduate principles courses (microeconomics and macroeconomics), which will include evening courses. The opening will also teach a section of an MBA-level Economics for Decision-Makers course for Oglethorpe’s new evening MBA program.

Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness, a statement of teaching philosophy, and the names and contact information for three references. In the cover letter, please address all the qualifications stated above and provide evidence of a commitment to teaching and mentoring students from a range of social, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
