The New Product Development (NPD) Engineer Intern will be part of the Drinking Water business unit and gain valuable exposure to our product development processes. This internship provides the opportunity to contribute directly to the design, development, and launch of innovative products that bring safe, sustainable drinking water solutions to market. The intern will work alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, gaining hands-on experience in engineering practices, testing, and project execution.

The New Product Development (NPD) Engineer Intern will be part of the Drinking Water business unit and gain valuable exposure to our product development processes. The intern will work alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, gaining hands-on experience in engineering practices, testing, and project execution.
Reports to: NPD Engineering Manager
Key Focus Areas
- Support new product development initiatives from concept through prototyping and testing.
- Participate in cross-functional project team meetings to gain exposure to collaboration across engineering, product management, manufacturing, and quality.
- Assist in building, evaluating, and refining prototypes.
- Conduct research and gather data to support design decisions and product improvements.
- Learn and apply Zurn Elkay’s NPD processes, tools, and best practices.
- Document findings, test results, and recommendations in support of product development activities.
- Provide general engineering support to the NPD team on active projects.
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Strong interest in product design and development.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Hands-on aptitude and willingness to learn through practical project experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; CAD experience a plus.
- First-hand experience in the full product development lifecycle.
- Exposure to industry-leading drinking water solutions and sustainability initiatives.
- Mentorship from experienced engineers and leaders.
