What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Zoltenko Farms, Inc.?
The Role
You will report directly to the CEO and be fully accountable for the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of all financial reporting across our five entities. This is a hands-on leadership position—you will manage the accounting function end-to-end, implement strong controls, and deliver clear, actionable financial insights that directly impact our profitability and growth.
What You Will Own
- Full-cycle accounting: AP/AR, general ledger, payroll, treasury, and month-end close for all entities.
- Preparation and consolidation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (GAAP-compliant).
- Budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and cost control—especially around manufacturing, inventory, commodities, and transportation expenses.
- Design, documentation, and enforcement of internal controls and accounting policies.
- Coordination of external audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
- Cash flow management, banking relationships, and financing needs.
- Ongoing improvement of accounting systems and processes (ERP experience a plus).
- Leadership of Accounting Team.
What We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years as a Controller or equivalent.
- Proven experience with multi-entity consolidation and complex reporting.
- Direct experience in agriculture, manufacturing, transportation, or commodity-driven businesses is a significant advantage.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, etc.) and Excel.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial best practices.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate financial results clearly to non-financial owners.
- Self-starter mentality—you must thrive with autonomy in a rural environment and take full ownership of results.
