Process Planner

Job Description:

The Process Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining manufacturing process plans that support new product introduction, production readiness, and ongoing manufacturing operations. This position works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Program Management, and Production teams to translate product requirements and engineering designs into efficient, executable manufacturing processes.

The Process Planner ensures that manufacturing processes are properly defined, documented, resourced, and aligned with production requirements for cost, quality, schedule, capacity, and delivery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed manufacturing process plans, production routings, work instructions, and associated manufacturing documentation.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), product requirements, and engineering changes to determine appropriate manufacturing processes and requirements.
  • Translate product designs and production requirements into practical, efficient, and executable manufacturing processes.
  • Determine requirements for labor, equipment, tooling, fixtures, materials, facilities, and other manufacturing resources.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production teams to ensure processes are production-ready and aligned with factory capabilities.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), prototype builds, production launches, and transition-to-production activities.
  • Develop production plans and provide manufacturing inputs for product lifecycle gates, readiness reviews, and program milestones.
  • Identify manufacturing constraints, capacity limitations, process risks, bottlenecks, and schedule concerns and coordinate appropriate recovery actions.
  • Support cross-functional problem solving and resolution of manufacturing, process, quality, material, and production issues.
  • Evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities to improve productivity, throughput, quality, cost, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
  • Incorporate engineering changes, process improvements, corrective actions, and production feedback into manufacturing documentation and process plans.
  • Provide manufacturing inputs for capacity planning, demand and forecast reviews, production planning, and program reviews.
  • Monitor manufacturing readiness and execution performance and communicate process risks, issues, dependencies, and required actions to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Support process validation, first builds, pilot production, manufacturing ramp-up, and production stabilization activities.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes and documentation comply with applicable engineering, quality, safety, and company requirements.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing process planning, production planning, manufacturing engineering, or a related role.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience working with cross-functional Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production and program deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting NPI or transition-to-production activities.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, electronics, or other complex manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing planning tools.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and process optimization methodologies.
  • Experience with production capacity planning, manufacturing readiness, and lifecycle gate reviews.
