About the Role:
We’re looking for an Payroll & Accounts Payable Assistant Manager to join our Accounting and Finance team at Ziegler Industries. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Payroll/AP Manager to make sure our employees are paid accurately and on time — and our vendors are, too.
You’ll handle everything from payroll calculations and benefit coordination to reviewing invoices and supporting audits. What You’ll Do: Here’s what your day-to-day might look like:
- Assist with weekly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy in wages, deductions, and taxes.
- Support payroll audits and reconciliations to maintain clean and compliant records.
- Partner with HR on benefit deductions, leave accruals, and personnel updates that impact payroll.
- Prepare and maintain payroll reports and filings in line with federal and state regulations.
- Respond to employee payroll questions with professionalism, accuracy, and discretion.
- Help implement and maintain payroll software systems — testing updates and troubleshooting issues as needed.
- Ensure payroll taxes, garnishments, and other withholdings are submitted correctly and on time.
- Review and process vendor invoices for accuracy, proper coding, and approvals.
- Support weekly and monthly AP reporting and reconciliations to monitor payments and cash flow.
- Maintain vendor files, including W-9s and 1099 documentation, ensuring everything is up to date.
- Assist with month-end closings and recording payroll and AP liabilities accurately.
- Look for ways to make payroll and AP processes more efficient and effective.
- Provide training and support to payroll and AP staff to promote accuracy and consistency.
- Step in as a backup to the Payroll/AP Manager when needed to keep operations on track.
- Prepare performance metrics, reports, and audit documentation as required.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all employee and financial information.
- Take on other projects and tasks as assigned.
What You’ll Bring:
We’re looking for someone who’s analytical, dependable, and always a few steps ahead when it comes to keeping things organized.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: 2–3 years of experience in both payroll and accounts payable.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of payroll principles, AP processes, and compliance regulations.

- Proficient in accounting or ERP systems.
- Advanced in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements:
