Senior Hydrogeologist

Base Salary 105-165K depending on experience
We are helping a growing environmental and water resources consulting firm who is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to support and lead groundwater and water supply projects throughout Colorado and the Western United States. This role offers the opportunity to manage technically complex projects, mentor junior staff, and work directly with public and private sector clients on groundwater development, water resources planning, and hydrogeologic investigations.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in groundwater systems, well permitting and construction, aquifer analysis, and hydrogeologic interpretation, along with proven project management and client-facing experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage hydrogeologic and groundwater resource projects from planning through execution
- Conduct and oversee groundwater investigations, aquifer testing, and hydrogeologic analyses
- Evaluate groundwater quantity and quality data and prepare technical interpretations
- Support water supply development projects including well siting, design, permitting, and construction oversight
- Analyze pumping impacts, drawdown, lagged depletion, and well interference
- Prepare technical reports, memoranda, and project documentation
- Coordinate field activities including groundwater sampling, drilling oversight, and data collection
- Interpret lithologic logs, geophysical logs, and aquifer test results
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on water rights, environmental, and engineering projects
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior staff
- Maintain strong client relationships and assist with business development efforts
- Participate in project budgeting, scheduling, and resource management
- Serve as a technical expert during meetings, regulatory coordination, and potential legal or permitting proceedings
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related earth sciences discipline
- Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience
- Consulting experience with groundwater or water resources projects
- Experience with water supply well systems, including design, permitting, testing, or rehabilitation
- Strong understanding of hydrogeologic principles and subsurface investigations
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and client deliverables
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead field investigations and coordinate with contractors, agencies, and project stakeholders
- Strong technical report writing and analytical capabilities
- Ability to work independently while contributing to collaborative project teams
Preferred Qualifications (not required)
- Master’s degree in a related technical field
- Familiarity with Colorado groundwater regulations and water resources practices
- Experience working with municipal or irrigation water supply systems
- Knowledge of Western U.S. geology and aquifer systems
- Groundwater modeling experience
- Experience with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Pro
- Understanding of pumping systems, hydraulics, and groundwater infrastructure
