Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Telecommunications Design Engineer to support complex infrastructure projects within the critical facilities and systems integration industry. The Telecommunications Design Engineer role is ideal for an early- to mid-career engineer with hands-on experience in structured cabling design, multidisciplinary coordination, and telecommunications infrastructure supporting enterprise and mission-critical environments. This role is fully on site in Rock Hill, SC.

- Develop, identify, coordinate, and track project requirements throughout the design lifecycle.
- Coordinate communication connectivity requirements including backbone and inter-rack cabling, work area outlet types, cabling media and connector types, system topology, and device locations with Data and Wireless Networking, Audio Visual, Security, Mechanical, Electrical, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate detailed telecommunications space plans in collaboration with Architecture, MEP, and Electronic Systems teams.
- Coordinate detailed telecommunications pathway designs for inside and outside plant cabling infrastructure, including fill calculations and BIM coordination.
- Identify, write, and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Produce coordinated detailed design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and/or REVIT based on project requirements and specifications.
- Develop coordinated telecommunications construction specifications aligned with project criteria.
- Create and manage cable run lists and system labeling documentation.
- Create and manage cable acceptance testing plans in accordance with specification requirements.
- Identify products, create Bills of Materials (BOMs), and develop Product Data deliverables that meet system and project requirements.
- Apply and follow established quality control processes to ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements, are constructible, and comply with internal engineering standards.
- Perform site surveys, produce field reports, and identify, propose, and develop technical solutions based on site conditions.
- Produce prefabrication designs and develop test procedures for Pre-Installation and Check Out (PITCO) activities.
- Develop and apply working knowledge of relevant NFPA codes, TIA standards, BICSI publications, and other applicable design criteria.
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable Engineering discipline with 2 years of experience in the telecommunications structured cabling industry.
- Experience with inside and outside plant pathways, cabling systems, components, testing, and design.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Willingness to expand technical knowledge to support new systems and technologies as project needs evolve.
- Demonstrated basic understanding of TIA standards and NFPA codes.
- Ability to successfully pass an extensive background investigation.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% as required.
- Experience with CAD and/or BIM platforms such as AutoCAD or REVIT.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network , EIT/FE, PE, LEED, CAPM, DBIA, or BICSI RCDD are a plus.
- Prior field installation and testing experience and manufacturer certifications are a plus.
- Annual Salary: $100,000 - $115,000 depending on experience
