Systems Administrator

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Administrator to support a Department of Defense contractor. This position is onsite in Rome, NY, and is a contract opportunity supporting a homeland defense communications program focused on mission-critical Air Force communications infrastructure.

The Systems Administrator will provide administration and sustainment support for critical IT systems supporting defense communications operations. The role works closely with on-site personnel and a distributed technical team to ensure secure, reliable system performance.

Responsibilities for the Systems Administrator include:

• Install, configure, and maintain Windows and/or Linux servers, operating systems, applications, and hardware
• Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve operational issues
• Troubleshoot system, application, and network-related incidents in a secure environment
• Implement and maintain security controls, including access management and system hardening measures
• Perform system backups, recovery procedures, patching, and routine maintenance activities
• Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages
• Collaborate with remote and on-site technical teams to support modernization and sustainment initiatives
  
  

Qualifications for the Systems Administrator include:

• Active Secret Security Clearance required
• 3 years of systems administration experience supporting enterprise environments
• Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Linux operating systems
• Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization technologies
• Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies
• Security CE, SecurityX, CASP , or equivalent DoD 8140-compliant IAT Level II certification required
• PD I and PD II certifications required
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field, or equivalent experience
  
  

Compensation for the Systems Administrator includes:

• Salary: $95,000
