The RoleWe are seeking a skilled and dependable Construction Apprentice with 1-2 years of hands-on experience. This position is ideal for an individual who is eager to grow in the trades, takes pride in quality workmanship, and is willing to learn from experienced team members while developing the skills needed to work independently over time.
The Construction Apprentice should have a basic understanding of residential and light commercial construction practices, tools, materials, and jobsite safety procedures. Candidates should be familiar with tasks related to framing, demolition, finish work, material handling, and general construction support, while continuing to build knowledge of building systems, codes, and regulations. A willingness to ask questions, learn new skills, and adapt to changing jobsite conditions is essential. A positive outlook when facing challenges is a must.
This role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear communication with supervisors, coworkers, subcontractors, and clients. The ideal candidate is professional, safety-conscious, and capable of representing Zach’s Handyman of Bozeman with confidence on the jobsite.
Responsibilities
- General carpentry
- Finish concrete work
- Basic plumbing and electrical coordination (non-licensed work)
- Insulation, air sealing, and weatherproofing
- Siding experience, including installation and repair of common siding materials (fiber cement, LP, vinyl, wood, etc.), proper flashing, moisture control, and fastening methods
- Drywall, trim, doors, windows, and finish carpentry
- Painting knowledge, including proper surface preparation, priming, rolling, brushing, spraying basics, and clean finish techniques
- Perform work that meets local and state code requirements and identify work that requires inspection or licensed trades
- Commitment to jobsite safety and maintaining a clean, organized work environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, team members, subcontractors, and clients
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also collaborate as part of a team
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work includes indoor and outdoor job sites in all weather conditions, with moderate to high noise levels from tools and equipment. This is a physically demanding role requiring frequent lifting, bending, climbing, and extended periods of manual labor.
Compensation and Benefits
- $22–$30/hr depending on experience
- This position does not include employer-sponsored benefits
Qualification Requirements
- Ability to communicate and follow instructions in English
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
