Job Summary

The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing and coordinating routine and corrective maintenance for assigned facilities and grounds to ensure a safe, functional, and well‑maintained environment. This role supports daily operations and special projects while proactively identifying maintenance needs and safety concerns. This position requires demonstrated experience and skill in drywall repair and painting.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on assigned facilities, including painting, drywall repair, plumbing, basic HVAC, electrical work, and general building repairs
  • Complete maintenance work orders accurately and efficiently, according to established priorities and timelines
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Director to develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule
  • Participate in monthly facility walk‑throughs with the Facilities Director to identify safety hazards, maintenance needs, and proactive repair opportunities
  • Lead or assist with special projects, facility improvements, and event‑related setup and support as assigned
  • Be available during working hours, in person or by phone, to respond to urgent or unplanned facility needs
  • Train or assist staff in proper maintenance procedures, safe equipment use, and inspection methods as needed
  • Provide occasional support to the custodial team when operational needs arise
  • Maintain professional communication with staff, leadership, vendors, and guests regarding maintenance issues and resolutions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support organizational operations

Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrate and support the YWCA mission, vision, and values
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related maintenance experience and/or training
  • Required: Proven experience in drywall repair and painting
  • Proficiency using standard hand and power tools and maintenance equipment
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Understanding of basic building maintenance and repair procedures
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to assess maintenance issues, identify appropriate solutions, and communicate findings effectively to management
  • Basic math skills, including accurate addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates initiative, problem‑solving ability, enthusiasm, and self‑motivation
  • Ability to relate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds

Other Requirements

  • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite and willingness to use personal vehicle for business needs
  • Professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Flexibility to work occasional irregular hours, including evenings or weekends
  • Ability to travel infrequently (0–10 days per year)
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history background check and FBI fingerprint check

  • Regularly sit, stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, climb stairs, and work with hands and arms
  • Perform manual labor on foot for up to eight (8) hours per day
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Safely use ladders and scaffolding up to thirty (30) feet
  • Work outdoors for extended periods
  • Operate power tools and equipment safely and effectively
