JOB DESCRIPTION and SPECIFICS

POSITION: YWkids Paraprofessional

STATEMENT of DUTIES: Responsible for supervising activities and addressing the needs of all children enrolled in the school age child care program.

SUPERVISION: Reports to Director of Adult and Youth Services

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accepts responsibility for implementing the Mission of the YWCA.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to children as assigned.
  • Assist children in developing and practicing social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behavior.
  • Reinforce learning and activity participation by using strategies consistent with program goals and behavioral support plans.
  • Collaborate with program staff to maintain consistent routines, transitions, and behavioral expectations.
  • Model appropriate language, behavior, and problem-solving skills for children.
  • Support daily program activities such as homework help, arts and crafts, games, outdoor play, and enrichment projects.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all children by maintaining active supervision and reporting concerns promptly.
  • Document observations or behavioral incidents as required and communicate relevant updates to supervising staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training as assigned.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Development Staff to achieve the YWCA’s overall resource development and communications goals.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, trainings as required.

Other job-related duties and responsibilities may be assigned and/or the job description may change periodically to reflect changing organization needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in education, child development, or psychology preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working with children in a structured setting (school, childcare, after-school program, or camp).
  • Patience, flexibility, and ability to support children with diverse learning and behavioral needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Must pass a background check and meet EEC licensing requirements.
  • Experience supporting children with special needs or behavioral plans.
  • Familiarity with positive behavior support strategies or ABA principles.
  • Ability to adapt to changing group dynamics and maintain a positive, nurturing attitude.

POSITION STATUS: NON-EXEMPT / Part-Time

June, July & August (Summer Break): 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

School year: 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

$16.00 - $18.00 an hour
