POSITION SUMMARY
The Lifeguard is responsible for the direct care and safety of participants using the swimming pool and the surrounding area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Be responsible for the overall condition of the swimming pool and locker room areas. It also means keeping all areas clean and free from debris.
- Maintain accurate records and statistical information that may be required by your Supervisor. Complete and submit written reports as assigned;
- Check and accurately record chemicals, pool temperature etc. before and after shift.
- Enforce all pool rules in a professional manner.
- Direct other Lifeguards during rotations, breaks, and potentially difficult situations.
- Act as the “go to” person during guard shifts as situations present themselves.
- Recognize and protect swimmers from any hazards that are a threat to their physical safety and their emotional well-being;
- Be aware of all state requirements and emergency procedures and notify the Director if you notice a violation or have concerns;
- Participate in ongoing safety and rescue training that will increase your aquatic skills and competence
- Attend and actively participate in scheduled staff meetings.
- Current First Aid & CPR certificates, will train
- Current Lifeguard & WSI certificates, will train
- Team-oriented with a commitment to excellence and professional ethics.
- Experience and skills working with groups of children.
- Highly motivated to learn and practice new skills
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Positive leadership skills and the ability to make decisions
Must Have
- Must be at least 20 years of age with a minimum of 1 year experience in waterfront environment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain control of groups of 25 participants.
- Must be able to speak loudly, and distinctly to be heard over pool noise.
- Must be able to stand and pay attention for periods of time.
- Must be physically able to conduct a swimming rescue.
- Must be appropriately dressed to perform duties at all times.
- Must be able to supervise pool staff specifically guards and water safety Instructors.
- Must be able to maintain safety in the pool area.
- Must be able to train guards and instructors in roles and responsibilities and follow up with staff on a regular basis.
