JOB SUMMARY
The Safety Specialist Ensures a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment for residents, staff, and visitors by monitoring facility security systems, responding to incidents, and supporting shelter operations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Greet all residents, children, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners coming through Welcome Center.
  • Monitor camera (interior & exterior), alarm and intercom systems.
  • Facilitate monthly fire drills and complete required documentation.
  • Give indoor & outdoor access to residents, volunteers, and partners.
  • Initiate intake process.
  • Turn on hot room at beginning of shift; manage daily operations of hot room.
  • Update emergency service log when needed.
  • Attend monthly Incident Review Committee meetings.
  • Clean and sanitize the welcome center area during and at the end of each shift.
  • Remove and dispose of office trash at the end of each shift.
  • Provide and receive completed satisfaction surveys at the time of exit.
  • Schedule transportation support approved by the management team.
  • Respond promptly to security concerns or incidents and follow established emergency response procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or as organizational needs evolve.

CLERICAL/ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
  • Submit work orders through Limble system as needed.
  • Create signage; laminate as needed.
  • Complete sign in/sign out sheets for residents and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational standards when handling resident or staff information.
  • Maintain additional copies on all relevant forms in welcome center.
  • Scan and copy paperwork, documentation as needed or requested.

Required Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 1-2 years’ experience completing clerical/administrative duties preferred.
  • CCTV experience preferred..
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years working with clients experiencing homelessness.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years working with survivors and families experiencing intimate partner violence/family violence.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years demonstrating expertise in trauma informed practices and advocacy services.
Skills/Specialized Knowledge/Abilities
  • Advanced attention to detail and accuracy in all work
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality regarding business and staff information
  • Intermediate ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

  • Work performed typically in a shelter environment; fully on-site with no remote/hybrid option.

  • Digital dexterity and hand/eye coordination in operation of office equipment.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to organize and sort closets, drawers, and other spaces.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
  • Body motor skills sufficient to enable incumbent to move around the office and residential environment.
  • Additional Mental Requirements: compare, decide, direct, problem solve, analyze, instruct, interpret, support, de-escalate.
