Supervisor - Shop
Purpose Statement
The job of Supervisor - Shop is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the educational
process with specific responsibilities for supervising the district vehicle repair shop;
implementing a preventative maintenance plan; identifying repair and/or replacement needs;
assisting other mechanics and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site.
This job reports to Operations Manager of Transportation

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating school buses and/or district vehicles; operating tools/equipment used in maintenance of vehicles; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and operating standard office equipment and office technology.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods of maintaining vehicles; methods of storage and removal of hazardous materials; and safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working with interruptions.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; tracking budget expenditures. utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 33% sitting, 33% walking, and 34% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
Education High school diploma or equivalent required, Automotive Technology Associate Degree preferred.

- Maintain proper availability of vehicles or equipment to meet District needs.
- Conducts in-service training (e.g. operation of equipment, repair techniques, safety meetings, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring work goals are achieved and performance maximized.
- Coordinates with the Operations Manager for the purpose of ensuring repairs, preventative maintenance and other services are completed in compliance with established guidelines.
- Coordinates vehicle inspections with the Department of Safety for the purpose of meeting mandated requirements.
- Diagnoses vehicle malfunctions for the purpose of determining needed vehicle repairs and/or replacements.
- Inspects vehicles and/or equipment repairs for the purpose of ensuring standards are achieved.
- Implements preventative maintenance program for the purpose of reducing the incidence of repairs and meeting mandated requirements and established guidelines.
- Responsible to ensure positive, safe and efficient working conditions, providing necessary tools and equipment for the efficient operations of the shop area.
- Manages inventory control and purchases with assigned Parts Technicians; Maintains and updates condition list forms to maintain stakeholders up to date on status for pertaining equipment and work orders.
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and records (e.g. maintenance records,
- inspection records, malfunction reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing up to date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements.
- Performs personnel functions (e.g. training, scheduling, supervising, evaluating, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing productivity and ensuring standards are achieved and performance maximized.
- Prepares written materials (e.g. vehicle specifications, budget reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing written reference and meeting mandated requirements.
- Purchases major transportation and automotive supplies (e.g. busses, lifts, jacks, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring items availability.
- Repairs vehicle systems and components, etc. (e.g. diesel/gasoline engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition.
- Responds to calls 24/7 (e.g. repairs, tow service, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues and restoring services.
- Schedules all District equipment for necessary repairs and preventative maintenance for the purpose of directing services in an efficient and timely manner.
- Responsible to dispose of vehicle and equipment at the time of auction or asset disposition in alignment with district procedures and policy.
- Responsible to communicate with various stakeholders including vendors regarding status of equipment and vehicle work orders.
- Supervises mechanics and other assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring that assignmentsare completed in compliance within established guidelines.
