The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Bethel, the regional hub and location of the only hospital in the region, has a population of nearly 7,000. Position Summary: To provide environmental health services to remote villages as assigned.
Position Responsibilities
Minimum Education: Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in environmental health or related field (sanitary science, industrial hygiene, occupational safety and health, or the equivalent).
Minimum Experience: No experience required.
License, Certification, Registration: Professional registration as a Registered Sanitarian (RS) or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) through either the State of Alaska or the National Environmental Health Association; or post-employment licensure/registration within two year of starting date.
Equipment/Tools: EHO Tool Kit: (Flash Light, Food Thermometer, Tape Measure, Chlorine Test Kit, Circuit Tester, GPS, Digital Camera, pliers)
Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Superior verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to use a computer for word processing, and to generate survey reports with little or no clerical support. The ability to schedule; plan; and organize resources, information, and time. The ability to understand basic mechanical systems. Ability to communicate in Yupik or Athabascan. (Desirable)

Position Summary: To provide environmental health services to remote villages as assigned.
Position Responsibilities
- Provides timely, and accurate technical assistance in all matters of environmental health to governing councils and residents in approximately 15 remote villages.
- Conducts institutional environmental health surveys at village health clinics, Head Start Centers, and other institutional settings; and surveys community drinking water, sewage disposal, and solid waste disposal facilities. Makes recommendations to correct deficiencies. Generates survey reports. Ensures that the survey reports are understood, and conducts follow-up surveys as necessary.
- Promotes the rabies prevention program by organizing and conducting rabies vaccination clinics; training village-based lay vaccinators; investigating animal bite incidents; and preparing specimens for laboratory analyses.
- Disseminates and collects information relevant to sanitation facilities project funding, and provides input into the Indian Health Service Sanitation Deficiency System.
- Performs laboratory analyses of water samples and other duties associated with the operation of a certified drinking water laboratory.
- Maintains office files and records pertaining to environmental health for approximately fifteen villages.
- Provides training for community health aides, Head Start Center staff, and others.
