Part-Time Direct Support Staff

Position Summary

The Part-Time Direct Support Specialist (DSP) at the Individual Residential Care (IRC) – Lillyben Home provides compassionate, trauma-informed care and supervision to youth ages 5–20 in a structured therapeutic residential setting. Working assigned part-time shifts, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed, the DSP helps maintain a safe and supportive environment while promoting residents’ independence, life skills development, and personal goals. This role involves implementing individualized treatment plans and positive behavior strategies, collaborating effectively with team members, and serving as a reliable, positive role model and mentor to youth in care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide compassionate, trauma-informed supervision and direct support to residents ages 5–20 in a structured therapeutic residential setting
• Build trusting, therapeutic relationships that foster emotional safety, resilience, and independence
• Encourage self-care, life skills development, and positive decision-making
• Promote resident autonomy while ensuring adherence to treatment plans and safety protocols
• Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)—including dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, and eating—in accordance with each individual’s Individual Support Plan (ISP) and applicable Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) Chapter 411 requirements.
• Support residents with mobility and transfers, including the safe use of mechanical lift devices as trained
• Teach and model proper hygiene, grooming, and self-care skills to promote independence
• Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to dietary needs and preferences
• Assist with meal planning, grocery shopping, and involving residents in meal preparation
• Perform housekeeping and laundry duties to maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment
• Implement individualized behavior support strategies and de-escalation techniques
• Recognize and respond proactively to behavioral triggers or escalation
• Monitor residents continuously for safety risks, changes in behavior, or emotional distress
• Respond appropriately to emergencies, including crisis intervention and collaboration with clinical staff
• Accurately document resident progress, skill-building interventions, and daily activities in the OARS system
• Complete thorough incident reports, daily logs, and change-in-condition reports in a timely manner
• Ensure all documentation meets regulatory, licensing, and agency standards
• Implement individualized treatment and service plans with fidelity under the guidance of clinical staff
• Participate actively in care plan meetings, treatment reviews, and clinical discussions
• Provide transportation for appointments, community outings, and errands while ensuring safety and adherence to protocols
• Act as an advocate for residents' needs, preferences, and rights
• Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and agency policies
• Participate in shift briefings, staff meetings, training, and ongoing professional development
• Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent, high-quality care and continuity of services
• Adapt to varying schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience (one of the following):

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in social/behavioral science or related field, OR
• One year of college coursework in social science plus two years of relevant experience, OR
• High school diploma or equivalent plus three years of related experience in youth care, human services, child welfare, crisis intervention, or similar settings

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse populations
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace (email, Word, Docs, Calendar, Excel, etc.)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to follow complex oral and written directions with attention to detail
• Capable of maintaining accurate clerical records and preparing daily reports
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, colleagues, families, and community partners
• Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
• Physical ability to respond to emergencies and participate in crisis interventions as needed
• Capable of standing, walking, bending, and performing physical activities throughout the shift
• Ability to assist residents with mobility and daily living activities as needed

Legal Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Successfully pass DHS Background Check
• Complete OIS Crisis Management Training
• Obtain CPR and First Aid certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in psychology, social work, human services, or related field
• Experience providing direct care to individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health needs, or trauma histories
• Valid driver license with clean driving record
• Previous experience in residential, group home, or behavioral health settings

Pay: $21.50 - $25.00 per hour
