Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide general mentorship and serve as a role model to motivate and advocate for residents in recovery to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery by sharing personal recovery experiences and developing authentic peer-to-peer relationships.
  • Support residents in maintaining their living quarters at a reasonably safe and clean standard.
  • Ensure residents are following YSS Recovery Homes guidelines.
  • Facilitate New Resident Orientation, welcome and introduce new residents to all existing residents.
  • Support and encourage residents to learn skills needed to live a life in recovery.
  • Help residents to find services, community resources, and service agencies, as needed.
  • Ensure that House Manager oversees that residents complete assigned household chores and properly maintain all common areas, such as kitchen and living room.
  • Ensure that Home Manager observes and reports any unusual behaviors and potential areas of conflict between residents and reposts this to YSS Recovery Homes Staff.
  • Provides feedback to YSS Recovery Homes Staff, regarding any unusual activities that may pose a safety or nuisance issue for other residents.
  • Complete required certifications.
  • Over-see House Manager to maintain inventory of all housing supplies (i.e., cleaning supplies, cooking utensils, furniture, household keys, etc.)
  • Attend and participate in administrative meetings to provide input towards program development and staff training.
  • Organize setup of weekly House Meetings with residents. (Mon-Wed-Fri)
  • Communicate effectively in a diverse population and promotes favorable interaction with co-workers and residents.
  • Carry out policy and procedures of YSS Recovery Homes; may participate in community work, staff development, agency wide projects and serve on committees/teams.
  • Oversee the Self-Administration of Medication with the residents, during medication times, and as needed.
  • Advocate for each residents’ individually-made treatment plan.
  • Ensure residents complete required court appointed program;(i.e., administering drug testing, report any issues to corresponding probation/parole officers, etc.)
  • Provides transportation of residents to any appointments necessary, grocery shopping, work or work-related events, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent service orientation and social perceptiveness skills
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Training
  • Knowledge of administering Naloxone
  • Excellent understanding of cultural competencies
  • Lived recovery experience
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Excellent organization and filing skills

Education and Experience:

Requires Highschool Diploma/G.E.D or 1-2 years of lived experience in recovery. Prefers Associate Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or related human services field Or 3-4 year experience working with adults in a residential recovery setting; Requires eligibility for Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) Certification or scheduled training. Must have valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance as required by law

Job Summary: It is the PRSS’s responsibility to work with residents on a daily basis ensuring that they have adequate access to community supports and resources that will help them achieve long-term recovery and the ability to live independently. PRSS will work closely with the Recovery Homes Manager, Director and House Managers of the respective houses. Each PRSS will work with individuals in a specific house.

Salary : $16 - $18
