Summary of Position:
The Family-Based Mental Health Therapist provides intensive, community-based mental health services to children and adolescents who are at risk of out-of-home placement due to emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric challenges. Working as part of a two-person therapy team, the therapist delivers time-limited, family-focused treatment designed to stabilize family functioning, strengthen support systems, and prevent hospitalization or residential placement.
- Provide intensive, family-centered mental health treatment to children and adolescents who are at risk of hospitalization, residential treatment, or out-of-home placement.
- Work collaboratively as part of a co-therapy team to deliver comprehensive therapeutic services and support.
- Conduct individual, family, parent-child, sibling, and caregiver therapy sessions in home, school, and community settings.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical assessments and family needs.
- Provide case management services and coordinate care with schools, healthcare providers, and community agencies.
- Deliver crisis intervention and support families in managing behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric challenges.
- Utilize evidence-based and trauma-informed treatment approaches to improve family functioning and child well-being.
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development activities.
- Work a flexible schedule that may include 2-3 evenings per week and on-call crisis response as needed
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in counseling, therapy, psychology, social work, sociology, or related field of study positions available.
- Experience in therapy, children services, or in a mental health setting.
- Two years of experience or full-time equivalent paid experience is required.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and families in behavioral health, social services, or related settings.
- Experience providing individual, family, or group therapy.
- Knowledge of family systems theory, child development, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based treatment practices
- Experience conducting crisis assessments and implementing safety plans
- Familiarity with community resources, case management, and care coordination
- Strong interpersonal, engagement, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system is a plus.
- Position requires reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and current auto insurance coverage.
- Bilingual (Spanish Speaking) is a plus.
- Some non-traditional hours including evenings may be required.
