POSITION SUMMARY:

The Childwatch Group Leader is responsible for providing care for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old, engaging in programs such as Childwatch, Parents Morning Out and Parents Night Out.  In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character-caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervise and interact positively and appropriately with members and their children.
  2. Take responsibility for the safety of the children in the child development environment and the quality of the supplies, equipment and materials in the child development area.
  3. Stays alert to children’s needs and or problems as individuals and as a group.
  4. Provides for physical needs of children including feeding, distributing snacks/drinks, restroom assistance, first aid, and diaper changes. 
  5. Provides for the emotional needs of children including soothing distressed children, comforting sick or hurt children, redirecting negative behavior and giving positive feedback.
  6. Prepares area for program by ensuring toys, supplies, play areas, storage areas, bathroom area and furniture are safe, clean, sanitized, organized and well maintained. 
  7. Inform incoming staff of any significant information about a child and list of children present in the group.
  8. Accurately record attendance of children and report to parents’ pertinent information as well as ensure proper sign in/out procedures.
  9. Reporting of safety issues, attendance numbers and general needs of the programs.
  10. Preventing incidents of child abuse as a Mandated Reporter, identifying signs and symptoms of abuse, and reacting properly when they occur including writing documentation.
  11. Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service.
  12. Attends and participates in staff meetings and maintains YMCA training hour requirements. 
  13. Assist in the Annual Campaign fundraising program for the YMCA.
  14. Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, parents and children.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Employees and volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization. An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to supervise groups of young children.
  2. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

CPR and First Aid, Fire Safety, Mandated Reporter and Health and Safety required within 90 days of employment and all other trainings assigned at onboarding.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
