ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Own the overall maintenance, safety, and functionality of all Lake Wenatchee YMCA facilities, grounds, and infrastructure
  • Partner with the Director of Assets to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all buildings, systems, vehicles, equipment, and camp infrastructure.
  • Assess, prioritize, and respond to maintenance and repair needs in a timely and effective manner including cabins, lodges, docks, and other camp structures
  • Identify facility improvement opportunities and collaborate with leadership to plan, coordinate, and implement maintenance, renovation, and capital improvement projects.
  • Install, repair, maintain, and coordinate plumbing, electrical, mechanical and other building systems.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for campers, staff, volunteers, and guests by performing custodial and maintenance duties, including:
    • Cleaning and maintaining restrooms, showers, and common areas.
    • Performing floor care, including sweeping, mopping, buffing, and vacuuming.
    • Cleaning windows, walls, and surfaces, including paint and finish work as needed.
    • Maintaining walkways, roads, parking areas, and outdoor spaces through debris removal, snow removal, and seasonal site upkeep.
    • Coordinating seasonal groundskeeping activities, including irrigation, lawn care, vegetation management, and site beautification.
  • Operate, maintain, and ensure the safe use of motorized and non-motorized equipment, tools, and vehicles
  • Ensure all facilities meet or exceed YMCA standards, health codes, and safety requirements
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate the purchasing and replacement of maintenance equipment, custodial supplies, and materials in accordance with approved budgets.
  • Provide direction and oversight to part-time staff and volunteers assigned to facilities or maintenance projects
  • In partnership with the Director of Assets, coordinate and oversee contracted vendors, service providers, and inspection agencies to ensure timely completion of work and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and material needs; plan for future projects and resource allocation
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Assets regarding priorities, project updates, and long-term facility needs
  • Support the safety and security of participants, staff, volunteers, visitors, property, and equipment.
  • Complete required training and participate in professional development as appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training, trade certification, apprenticeship, or related degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years experience in facility maintenance, property management, construction, building operations, or a related field, including experience with plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and general maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, respond to urgent maintenance needs, maintain maintenance records and schedules, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience operating maintenance equipment, power tools, utility vehicles, and other related equipment; valid Washington State driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, contractors, guests, and community members.
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, safety procedures, equipment specifications, work orders, and related technical documents.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and commitment to providing services in accordance with applicable laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Ability to pass a criminal background screening in accordance with YMCA standards and obtain required certifications within 30 days of hire.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed across a 26-acre outdoor camp environment with rugged terrain and varying conditions, including snow, dirt, and dust
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs, and moving across uneven terrain
  • Regular handling of cleaning agents and maintenance-related chemicals
  • Ability to work in all seasonal weather conditions

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is a leader in the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Assets, the LWY Property Superintendent will work independently using the knowledge of YMCA practices, policies and organization as related to all matters of the branch.
The primary responsibility of this position is the maintenance and upkeep of all camp facilities and grounds. Duties include general maintenance, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical repair, the safe handling of chemicals, and the operation of power tools. Applicants should be outgoing and energetic people who enjoy working independently in an outdoor environment.
