POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for planning, leading and delivering the daily literacy curriculum for the program. This position ensures a fun and motivational learning environment and creates learning pathways to address students’ needs.
JOB LOCATION: King Elementary and Findley Elementary
SEASONAL PROGRAM DATES: June 8 - July 24, 2026
SHIFTS AVAILABLE: Monday-Thursday 7:30a-12:00p
PAY RANGE: $28.00-$32.00/hour
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: May 29, 2026- Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan, prepare, implement and deliver instructional activities that contribute to an environment where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
- Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Positively interact with and maintain harmonious working relationships with students and guardians.
- Provide constructive and detailed feedback to help students achieve academic success.
- Ensure the daily plan, supplies & materials, and schedule are in place at the beginning of each day.
- Maintain records and follow record keeping procedures.
- Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
- Recognized accomplishments and gains in student performance.
- Follow all YMCA of Greater Des Moines’ policies, procedures, operating standards, and emergency procedures.
- Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
- Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
