Job responsibilities
- Perform complex diagnostics on a wide range of vehicles to pinpoint the root cause of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools, software, and computerized equipment to analyze and troubleshoot vehicle performance problems.
- Perform skilled repairs on engines, transmissions, brake systems, steering and suspension, electrical systems, and complex computer-controlled systems.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced mechanics, sharing knowledge on complex repairs and diagnostic techniques.
- Manage repairs from start to finish, including testing vehicles before and after service to ensure the highest quality of work.
- Keep accurate records of all repair work performed, including parts used and services rendered.
- Communicate effectively with customers to explain complex technical issues, repair options, costs, and timelines in a clear manner.
- Stay updated on new automotive technologies and repair methods through ongoing training and certification programs.
Essential skills and qualifications
- Proven experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a mechanic, with a focus on diagnostics and complex repairs.
- ASE Certification: Industry-standard certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), or a willingness to obtain it. Master certification is highly desirable.
- Technical knowledge: An in-depth understanding of automotive systems, including gas, diesel, and alternative fuel systems, as well as electronic and computer-controlled components.
- Diagnostic proficiency: Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret diagnostic data and technical manuals.
- Communication skills: The ability to communicate technical information clearly to both customers and team members.
- Dexterity and strength: Physical stamina, dexterity, and the ability to lift heavy equipment and work in a variety of physical positions.
- Tool proficiency: Expertise in safely using a wide variety of power and hand tools, as well as complex diagnostic equipment.
