Placement on the Yosemite Community College District salary schedule dependent upon education and experience. 2025-2026 Salary Schedule – $75,979 to $141,835 per year or $89,533 to $145,028 with an earned doctorate. New personnel limited to a maximum tenth step initial placement based on previous experience – maximum equals $117,949 or $121,140 with an earned doctorate.

Vision care and dental insurance premiums for the employee and dependents is District paid. Income protection and life insurance premiums for the employee are also District paid. The estimated cost of District provided benefits (health, dental, vision, and life) is $24,408 annually.

Job Description Summary
GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the teaching assignment includes in person and online to support the hybrid program, teaching assignment may also include evening, and/or Saturdays. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Teaching Fire Technology courses in both lecture and laboratory modalities in accordance with the approved course outline of record.
  • Secondary teaching areas may include areas in Search and Rescue, EMS, State Fire Marshal training, and/or Homeland Security-related course offerings.
  • Proof of current evaluator training through the Office of the State Marshall, or obtain such certification during the first six months of employment.
  • Promote and continue development of Fire Technology courses, certificates, degrees, and other training programs.
  • Shared responsibility to create and maintain accurate records and documentation, and facilitate the implementation and tracking of all activities required to sustain the ongoing accreditation of the Modesto Junior College Fire Academy through the Office of the State Marshal.
  • Advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines.
  • Informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
  • Preparing and grading class assignments and examinations, and informing students of their academic progress.
  • Maintaining attendance, scholastic, and other records and submitting them according to published policies and deadlines.
  • Developing, implementing, and assessing student-learning outcomes for courses and programs and using the results for improvement.
  • Engaging in data inquiry and self-assessment to develop strategies for student success, persistence, and equity.
  • Participating in professional development activities to fulfill mandatory FLEX requirements
  • Fulfill the additional professional responsibilities of a faculty member, including assessment of student learning, committee work, and outreach activities.
  • Maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/learning strategies to meet the needs of all learning styles.
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Reports to the Dean of the School of Public Safety.
  • Coordinate and schedule classes.
  • Advise, assist, and evaluate students for certifications and degrees.
  • Assist with developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising curriculum.
  • Maintain accurate class records.
  • Determine program budgetary needs and control program expenditures.
  • Teach subject-specific classes, including evening and off-campus courses as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate office hours.
  • Secure and nurture internship sites with fire agencies.
  • Recommend the purchasing of equipment and supplies to support program activities.
  • Advise on the maintenance of classrooms, laboratories, and equipment to acceptable industry standards.
  • Develop and offer discipline-appropriate online and/or hybrid offerings of courses.
  • Maintain currency in the skills and knowledge of the profession through continuing education classes, seminars, and training programs.
  • Help organize and attend the fire technology advisory meetings and the Fire Academy graduation.
  • Be actively involved in industry-related professional organizations and continue professional development in the field.
  • Other duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS
  • Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level.
  • Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes.
  • Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close-up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.
  • Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
  • Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.

Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preference will be given to candidates possessing a CFSTES Instructor and a California Fire Officer Certification.
  • Successful teaching experience in a variety of Fire Technology courses.
  • Ability to effectively instruct, supervise, and evaluate students in the academic and fieldwork aspects of Fire Technology.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff and public agencies in the coordination of fire training activities.
  • A working knowledge of the needs of pre-service and in-service Fire Technology students.
  • Ability to work effectively in a close, collaborative team environment with agency partners, other faculty, and college staff.
  • Successful full-time, paid experience in the Fire Service, including successful experience as a Company and/or Training Officer.
  • Ability to use available technologies as a teaching and/or student service tool.
  • An understanding of CFSTES Certification Programs and related regulations.
  • Participation in professional organizations in the field.
  • Education and/or experience in teaching in Fire Technology at the community college level, with a particular emphasis in basic skills.
  • Current knowledge of Fire Technology.
  • Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program, and degree level.
  • Competent in new pedagogies, such as Fire Technology, and other pedagogies directed at improving student success and student equity.
  • Recent experience working with African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other minoritized students in the classroom, and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom;
  • Experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching in Fire Technology, especially as it relates to the relevancy of students’ lives, interests, and communities;
  • Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within coursework and the classroom;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.
