Salary Range / Other
Placement on the Yosemite Community College District salary schedule dependent upon education and experience. 2025-2026 Salary Schedule – $75,979 to $141,835 per year or $89,533 to $145,028 with an earned doctorate. New personnel limited to a maximum tenth step initial placement based on previous experience – maximum equals $117,949 or $121,140 with an earned doctorate.

Benefits
The District currently pays for a health options for the employee and dependents. Employees may elect to pay a premium for a higher health option. Vision care and dental insurance premiums for the employee and dependents is District paid. Income protection and life insurance premiums for the employee are also District paid. The estimated cost of District provided benefits (health, dental, vision, and life) is $24,408 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience directly related to Automotive Technology, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience directly related to Automotive Technology.

Job Description Summary
GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. The program is taught on campus in a face-to-face modality. Part of the teaching assignment may be online, in the evening, and/or on Saturdays. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Teaching lower division college courses in Automotive Technology
  • Advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines of record.
  • Informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
  • Preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress.
  • Maintaining attendance, scholastic, and other records and submitting them according to published policies and deadlines.
  • Attending department, division, and college-wide meetings on a regular basis.
  • Posting and holding sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
  • Developing, implementing, and assessing student-learning outcomes for courses and programs and using the results for improvement.
  • Engaging in data inquiry and self-assessment to develop strategies for student success, persistence, and equity.
  • Collaborating in the development and revision of curriculum (including 2- year course updates, program/awards curricular updates, course substitution reviews, and engaging in the Credit for Prior Learning process
  • Engaging in department program improvement initiatives, such as the program planning and evaluation process
  • Participating in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide, especially connected to closing disproportionate impact gaps and improving completion goals.
  • Maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/learning strategies to meet the needs of all learning styles.
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Engaging in the college’s participatory governance processes.
  • Maintaining and upgrading instructional tools, laboratory learning space, materials, equipment and inventories.
  • Maintaining active relationships with local employers in meeting industry workforce needs.
  • Maintaining an active industry local advisory committee (LAC) that informs program design and student preparation for industry.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Note: As a discipline with one full-time faculty member, this position both teaches and leads the initiatives for the discipline. This full-time instructional position is responsible for teaching 15 equated units per semester; however, the load is currently adjusted to reflect 20% of time spent on coordination duties.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS
  • Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level.
  • Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes.
  • Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close-up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.
  • Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
  • Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.

Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education and/or experience in teaching in Automotive Technology at the community college level.
  • Master ASE certification and L1 (advanced engine performance certification).
  • SMOG check inspector, licensed (BAR)
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications in six or more areas, OR in Steering and Suspension; Manual Transmissions and Drive Trains; Electrics, and Air Conditioning.
  • Experience in conducting inspection maintenance, diagnostics & repair on 2020 or newer vehicles.
  • Academic or industry training that would enhance teaching abilities and subject matter expertise in topics related to Automotive Technology
  • Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program, and degree level.
  • Competent in new pedagogies, such as accelerated learning, supplemental instruction, on-line or hybrid teaching, and other pedagogies directed at improving student success and student equity.
  • Recent experience working with women, African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other minoritized students in the classroom, and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom;
  • Experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching;
  • Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within coursework and the classroom;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.
  • Provide leadership and coordination of the Automotive award and certificate programs through outreach, orientation, assessments, and partnership with local industry leaders. This includes part-time instructor recruitment and coordination of accreditation with the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) and Automotive Education Foundation accreditation (ASE)Build and maintain strong positive relationships with local high school partners and partners within the industry.
