You will be responsible for translating medical records into standardized codes, which are essential for billing and insurance purposes. What you’ll do

  • Accurately assign codes using ICD-10, and CPT coding systems to reflect diagnoses, procedures, and services provided to patients.
  • Review medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy of documentation before coding.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in medical records or coding practices.
  • Process medical billing and collections efficiently to ensure timely reimbursement from insurance companies.
  • Utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems to maintain accurate patient data.
  • Stay updated on coding guidelines, regulations, and compliance standards to ensure adherence to industry practices.
  • Conduct audits of coded records to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information while adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Basic qualifications

  • Proficient in medical coding with knowledge of DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) methodologies.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology relevant to coding practices.

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience in a medical coding for OBGYN and primary care is required.
  • Strong understanding of medical billing processes and insurance collections.
  • Experience working with EMR/EHR systems is a plus.
  • Certification in Medical Coding (CPC, CCS, or equivalent) is preferred but not mandatory.
