Responsibilities
- Review and interpret medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and DRG codes based on established medical coding guidelines for inpatient and outpatient services
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems to ensure timely reimbursement from third-party payers
- Manage the entire revenue cycle process, including patient billing, collections, and follow-up on unpaid or denied claims
- Maintain comprehensive and organized medical records to support billing activities and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding discrepancies that may impact reimbursement or compliance
- Stay current with updates in health insurance policies, medical coding standards, and regulatory requirements to ensure ongoing accuracy
- Assist in training staff on EMR/EHR systems, ICD coding updates, and best practices for medical billing procedures
Skills
- Proficiency in billing software, EMR/EHR systems, and electronic health record management for billing and coding purposes
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT coding, DRG classifications, and medical coding guidelines for inpatient services
