Summary:
York Imperial Plastic’s Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for a multitude of functions which are vital to our production process. Duties include, but are not limited to, performing general maintenance and repair while also constructing facilities and equipment which is necessary to support our production process. A successful Maintenance Mechanic will work under the general supervision of the Foreman and work safely while assisting our team in providing the highest quality, defect free product, and excellent customer service as well as meet all of the essential functions of the position.
Essential Functions:
The essential functions of a Maintenance Mechanic include:
- Adhere to all Company policies, practices, and procedures.
- Maintain a consistent and prompt attendance record.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Control operations of mechanical equipment or systems.
- Observe mechanical equipment in operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance including, but not limited to, servicing, repairing, and adjusting of machines, devices, moving parts, equipment, and vehicles that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electrical) principals.
- Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
- Read gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure equipment is working properly.
- Inspect or test damaged machine parts, equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems and defects.
- Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair, effectively using proper tools including but not limited to hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
- Safely operate fork and scissor lift in compliance with all Company safety standards.
- Resolve equipment needs, solve equipment problems and issues, and report any equipment shortages or malfunctions to Foreman in a safe and timely manner to prevent any injury or unnecessary downtime.
- Maintain cleanliness of the warehouse and production floor.
- Utilize our computer-based database programs, e-mail communication systems, and word processing software.
- Successfully complete appropriate forms and paperwork related to production.
- Work near hot and cold parts and around moving mechanical parts.
- Ability to work independently and to follow through on assignments as instructed.
- Work under pressure to meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Assist with other departments related to the production process, including shipping, and receiving, when necessary.

- The employee is regularly required to speak and hear while communicating effectively both verbally and in writing to co-workers, supervisors, customers, and outside vendors.
- This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing for up to 8-10 hours with flexibility for overtime opportunities.
- The employee should possess the ability to determine when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. This may not involve solving the problem directly, but it is essential that the employee recognize where there is a problem.
- The employee should be able to safely and confidently navigate up, onto, over, and around the production equipment when required. This includes the occasional use of equipment, step ladders, and platforms to heights greater than four feet.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 60 pounds.
Position Type:
This is a part-time or full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., minimum 30 hours per week.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- OSHA certified fork and scissor lift operator.
- Knowledge of injection molding machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and hydraulic prints.
