POSTED ON 8/6/2026

Flight Hardware Assembly Technician A day in the life

You start your shift by reviewing the latest work instructions and assembly drawings, confirming torque settings, and organizing your bench to 5S standards. With calibrated hand and power tools at the ready, you assemble precision aerospace components, install hardware like screws, nuts, bolts, rivets, clips, and bushings, and verify fit, alignment, and function at every step. Throughout the build, you perform visual and dimensional checks, document results, and immediately flag any nonconforming materials or parts. You coordinate with production, quality, and engineering to resolve questions, keep safety front and center, and close the day meeting production targets without sacrificing craftsmanship.

What you will do
  • Complete mechanical and final assembly of aerospace subassemblies and finished units to engineering specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, work instructions, and specifications to plan each build.
  • Assemble small parts using hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and precision measuring devices.
  • Install mechanical fasteners including screws, nuts, bolts, rivets, clips, and bushings.
  • Confirm proper fit, alignment, and functional performance of completed assemblies.
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections to meet stringent quality standards.
  • Identify, document, and escalate nonconforming materials, parts, or assemblies.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records and travelers.
  • Follow safety procedures and comply with company quality requirements at all times.
  • Keep the workstation clean and organized in accordance with 5S principles.
  • Collaborate closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve assembly challenges.
  • Achieve daily output goals while delivering exceptional workmanship.
What you bring
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–3 years of mechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing setting; aerospace experience preferred.
  • Proficiency reading blueprints and assembly drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and inspection methods.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, keen attention to detail, and pride in workmanship.
  • Ability to contribute independently and within a team environment.
  • Consistent, reliable attendance.
Physical demands
  • Frequent sitting, standing, bending, and reaching during the shift.
  • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Repetitive hand and wrist motions.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination.
  • Ability to distinguish small components and inspect detailed assemblies.
Tools, systems, and proficiencies
  • AS9100 quality systems experience/familiarity.
  • PLC wiring experience (electro-mechanical exposure a plus).
  • Mechanical assembly and final assembly skills.
  • General assembly experience and comfort with precision measuring.
