The Utilities Department operates and maintains water and sewer systems in defined service areas in eastern York County and western York County. The department purchases water from the City of Rock Hill. The county has in excess of 22,000 retail customers in its service areas. York County also provides service to the City of York. Sewer service is provided through a collection system owned by York County with treatment being provided by the City of Rock Hill's Manchester Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility.

We invite you to apply to join our team as a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt Utility Locator/Preventative Maintenance Technician in our Utilities Department. The purpose of this position is to receive work orders/locate tickets to provide preventative maintenance on water and sewer utilities, which requires the ability to drive and operate a county vehicle on a regular basis.

Successful candidate must be able to complete a background check, driving record check, and a drug screen.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am -4:00 pm; hours may vary based on operational needs (40 hours per week).

Compensation

Projected Hiring Range/Pay Grade 111: $20.40 - $24.48 per hour. Salary is determined based on qualifications.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Locates underground water and sewer utility lines and appurtenances.
  • Utilizes SC811 ticket systems to complete locate services for the excavator or property owner.
  • Performs preventative maintenance activities (flushing, exercising valves, etc.), meter readings, and service connections/disconnections.
  • Operates a desktop computer to read construction plans.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of basic computer skills and ability to read construction plans.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid state driver's license is required.

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 26 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
