What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Crewman I position at York County Natural Gas Authority?
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under close supervision operates hand and power tools of all types in order to install or maintain system mains or services. Performs other related duties such as hauling equipment, pipe line construction, assist in repairing broken lines, investigating and repairing leaks, etc. Reports to the Construction Supervisor.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all aspects of the job in an ethical and legal manner that best represents the values and policies of York County Natural Gas Authority.
- Drives a truck for the purpose of hauling equipment to and from job sites.
- Performs duties necessary for the construction of pipe line such as locating and uncovering lines, placing pipe in ditch lines, measuring and joining pipe, boring under pavement, plowing in service lines, digging around gas pipe line, testing lines, preparing plastic pipe, etc.
- Is responsible for performing preventive maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
- Operates and utilizes a wide variety of machinery, equipment, tools and supplies such as a dump truck, tapping machine (TD Williamson and Mueller), boring machine, air compressor, jack hammer, fork lift, mechanics tools, fusion equipment, plumbing tools, shovel, pipe dies, plastic pipe cutter, air tamp, etc. under close supervision.
- Is responsible for proper back-filling and clean-up of job site.
- Interacts with immediate supervisor to obtain instructions and assignments.
- Assists with installation of mains and services by loading and unloading pipe and fittings, physical placement of same, proper installation of marking tape and tracer wire.
- Performs such manual labor duties as digging, hauling, lifting, raking, etc.
- Is responsible for assisting construction crewmembers in locating underground facilities owned by York County Natural Gas and other utilities.
- Is responsible for insuring that all equipment is returned to the warehouse in good repair and refueled for operation on next working day.
- Assists in maintaining vehicle in a clean and orderly condition, inside and out, on a daily basis.
- Responsible for monitoring all Company provided communication resources to ensure information is received and handled appropriately (email, bulletin boards, intranet).
- Attends and properly engages in all employee meetings and training as scheduled.
- Is qualified and certified under Operator Qualification procedures pertaining to all construction related activities; maintains all qualifications according to OQ schedules.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Experience and/or training in underground utility construction is preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude is required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- The possession of a valid driver’s license or a valid commercial driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
- CDL holders are required to register for the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse for consideration. Candidates who have not registered on the site cannot be considered. https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/
- This is a covered function and is subject to random drug testing.
- Must be local. No relocation provided.
- A minimum of 30 days will be through our preferred temporary agency.

Hourly range: $18.50 - $23.00 (depends on experience)
