This dynamic position leads and directs that local implementation of the City-wide Basics Campaign, which promotes five (5) evidence-based parenting practices, known as the “Basics,” that support healthy early childhood development. The Coordinator will collaborate with community partners and the national Basics Network to deliver consistent, actionable messages to families with children ages 0-5, using trusted messengers, printed materials, public installations and a texting service. The goal is to build a culture of early learning throughout the City of York, by equipping families with practical strategies to help children thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Campaign Implementation and Leadership
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Master’s Degree preferred
- Experience in early childhood development, family engagement, community outreach or related field.
- Strong project management, organizational and communications skills
- Ability to build and sustain partnerships across diverse organizations and communities.
- Familiarity with evidence-based parenting practices and early learning principles preferred
- Comfort working with families from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing economic and social barriers.
- Ability to work some non-traditional hours
- Act 34 Clearance, Act 151 Clearance, FBI Clearance (self-paid)
- Drug screening (self-paid)

Key Responsibilities
Campaign Implementation and Leadership
- Lead local implementation of the Basics Campaign, guided by the national Basics Learning Network and the York City First 10 Basics Workgroup.
- Coordinate Campaign activities, timelines and deliverables to ensure consistent promotion of the five Basics principles:
- Maximize love, manage stress
- Talk, sing and point
- Count, group and compare
- Explore through movement and play
- Read and discuss stories
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with community organizations serving families with young children, including early childhood centers, Head Start programs, pediatricians, libraries, neighborhood associations and faith-based organizations.
- Collaborate with partners to distribute campaign materials (posters, flyers, tip sheets, workshop guides) in high-visibility locations such as grocery stores, parks, barbershops and beauty salons.
- Promote and support enrollment in Basic Insights, a free, age-targeted texting service delivering parenting tips.
- Target population are families with children ages 0-5 in the City of York, particularly those facing economic hardship or limited access to high-quality early learning resources.
- Plan, coordinate and participate in community events, family engagement nights, library story times and play-and-learn groups to reinforce the Basics messages.
- Engage trusted messengers (e.g. home visitors, teachers, pediatricians and faith leaders) to reach families in culturally meaningful and familiar ways.
- Oversee the installation of outdoor and indoor signage in high-traffic locations to maintain campaign visibility.
- Track outreach efforts, community engagement and participation in Basics programs and texting services.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the First 10 Partnership leadership and Basics Workgroup.
