About the role
Yolk | Chicago is looking to add an Assistant General Manager to our team. Applicants should have at least 1 year of Restaurant Management experience and a strong commitment to customer service and cost accountability. Most financial tracking is automated through our internal management platform — the focus is on staying alert, reading the data, and taking decisive action when it matters.
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with General Managers to actively monitor and achieve Food, Labor & Expense targets — this is a core focus of the role, not a secondary task.
- Monitor food and labor cost alerts through our internal management platform, partnering with the GM to respond quickly when costs trend outside of target.
- Assist with product ordering, scheduling, and payroll with an eye on keeping costs in line with budget.
- Inspect vendor deliveries to confirm accuracy; sign, file, and reconcile delivery invoices.
- Perform end-of-day cash handling and reconciliation, ensuring accuracy in daily sales reporting.
- Supervise FOH and BOH staff and oversee clear communication across the shift.
- Uphold a fun, positive, and efficient environment for staff and guests.
- Arrange new hires' onboarding, assisting with paperwork and providing a professional, welcoming environment.
- Monitor compliance with safety and hygiene regulations.
- Check in with guests via table visits, respond to complaints appropriately, and ensure every guest has a memorable experience.
Requirements
- Working experience as a Restaurant Manager or similar role in the hospitality industry.
- Experience with Toast POS or a similar point-of-sale system.
- Familiarity with Sling or a similar scheduling / workforce-management platform.
- Comfort navigating cost dashboards, alerts, and reporting tools.
- Comfort reading and acting on daily sales reports, labor percentages, and food-cost data.
- Proficiency with cash handling, end-of-day reconciliation, and accurate sales records.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Morning and weekend/holiday availability required.
- Great communication and team-management abilities.
- Ability to monitor staff performance and uphold company policies and standards.
Compensation
- Base salary: $59,000 – $62,000 / year.
- Performance bonus — up to $6,500 / year, paid every 4 weeks:
- Non-management labor costs — 40% of bonus (weekly labor targets).
- Food costs — 40% of bonus (4-week period targets).
- General performance — 20% of bonus (reviews, staff & guest interactions).
- Total compensation potential: up to $68,500 / year.
Expense-cost performance will be incorporated into the bonus program in the future.
