DataPower Integration Engineer

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced DataPower Integration Engineer with expertise in IBM DataPower, secure enterprise integrations, API gateways, and middleware technologies. This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, administering, and supporting secure API integrations while partnering with Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, and Application Development teams to deliver scalable, highly available enterprise integration solutions.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in IBM DataPower, WebSphere MQ (WMQ), API security, CI/CD automation, production support, and multi-data center architecture, along with exceptional troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
IBM DataPower Development & Administration

• Design, implement, and support secure integrations using IBM DataPower X2/X3 appliances.
• Develop and maintain DataPower proxy implementations and secure integration designs.
• Configure and administer DataPower appliances, domains, networking, and initialization.
• Maintain clean, optimized appliance configurations while partnering with application teams on API cleanup initiatives.
• Lead new DataPower appliance deployments and enterprise data center builds.

 
API Security & Enterprise Integration

• Design secure API solutions utilizing:
  • OAuth 2.0
  • WS-Security
  • Authentication & Authorization
  • JWT
• Develop DataPower GatewayScript and XSL Transformations.
• Implement enterprise integration patterns involving:
  • Protocol mediation
  • Orchestration
  • Encryption
  • Routing
• Define enterprise integration standards and reusable framework designs.

 
Messaging & Middleware

• Install, configure, and administer IBM WebSphere MQ (WMQ).
• Configure High Availability (HA) and failover environments.
• Support enterprise messaging infrastructure across multiple environments.

 
Infrastructure & Architecture

• Coordinate TLS certificate renewals and production implementations.
• Partner with Infrastructure, Security, Enterprise Architecture, and Application Development teams to define routing patterns across multiple data centers.
• Support enterprise-wide secure integration architecture initiatives.

 
Automation & DevOps
Develop and maintain CI/CD automation utilizing:

• TeamCity
• Octopus Deploy
• Git Actions
• Terraform
• Python

 
Additional responsibilities include:

• SOMA automation
• REST management automation
• Code promotion and configuration migration between environments

 
Production Support

• Perform advanced API troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Debug complex production issues.
• Produce detailed RCA documentation.
• Support production implementations and operational activities.
• Monitor APIs using:
  • Dynatrace
  • SolarWinds
  • DataPower Operations Dashboard (DPOD)

 
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

• Create and maintain:
  • Runbooks
  • Migration strategies
  • Knowledge articles
  • Operational documentation
• Utilize Confluence for documentation management.
• Educate and mentor application teams on secure integration design patterns.

Required Qualifications

• 10 years of IBM DataPower experience supporting secure enterprise integrations.
• Deep expertise with IBM DataPower X2/X3 appliances.
• Strong understanding of enterprise API gateway architecture.
• Extensive knowledge of secure API implementation and authentication technologies.
• Experience with WebSphere MQ administration and HA configuration.
• Strong understanding of enterprise networking and multi-data center architecture.
• Experience with CI/CD automation and Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
• Advanced API debugging and production troubleshooting skills.
• Strong documentation and technical writing abilities.
• Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
• Positive attitude with exceptional collaboration and team-building skills.
• Quick learner with strong interpersonal skills.
