Senior Systems Software Engineer Kernel, Virtualization, and Hardware Enablement
About the Position
A high-performance systems engineering team is seeking a senior-level engineer to work on complex platform-level software and hardware enablement initiatives. This role involves contributing across the full software stack, from early boot stages through kernel and system-level configuration, while collaborating with globally distributed engineering teams and external partners. The position requires someone who is comfortable operating across multiple layers of the system, can take ownership of technically challenging projects, and is capable of representing engineering efforts in both internal and partner-facing settings. The role also encourages exploration of new approaches and continuous innovation in system-level design.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to development across low-level system layers, including boot processes, kernel components, and supporting system software.
Work on large-scale platform and hardware enablement efforts spanning CPU, chipset, and system-level integration.
Collaborate with geographically distributed teams and external partners to co-develop and integrate solutions in virtualized environments.
Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and cross-team coordination, acting as a representative for engineering efforts when needed.
Analyze, debug, and resolve complex system-level issues involving performance, stability, and hardware/software interaction.
Support build systems, toolchains, and scripting used for system configuration and integration.
Contribute to a culture of innovation by exploring new technologies and approaches to improve system performance and capability.
Top Required Skills
Strong proficiency in C programming with experience in low-level or systems software development.
Deep understanding of operating systems and kernel internals across platforms such as Linux or similar systems.
Solid knowledge of modern processor and system architecture, including multiprocessing, memory hierarchy, and synchronization concepts.
Experience working with hardware interfaces and system-level I/O technologies such as PCIe, DMA, ACPI, UEFI, or similar.
Background developing or modifying kernel components, device drivers, or other low-level system software.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with virtualization platforms such as ESXi, KVM, or Hyper-V.
Familiarity with hardware bring-up activities, including bootloaders, interrupt controllers, and multi-core or NUMA systems.
Exposure to assembly programming or architecture-specific development, particularly Arm or x86 environments.
