As a Group Exercise Instructor, you will play a key role in creating a welcoming, motivating, and inclusive environment where members feel empowered to reach their wellness goals. In this role, you will lead dynamic group exercise classes, inspire participants of all fitness levels, and deliver a high-quality experience rooted in the YMCA’s core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions:

• Lead energizing, engaging, and safe group exercise classes using a variety of formats and equipment
• Create a fun and supportive environment that encourages participation and member retention
• Maintain all required certifications, including Group Exercise, CPR/AED, First Aid, and assigned trainings
• Accurately track and submit timesheets as required
• Communicate promptly with supervisors regarding schedule changes or emergencies
• Take ownership of assigned classes, including securing substitutes when needed
• Provide guidance and support to members to help them achieve their health and wellness goals
• Build meaningful relationships with members and foster a strong sense of community
• Follow YMCA policies and safety procedures, including emergency action protocols
• Attend staff meetings and required trainings to stay informed and connected
• Support YMCA fundraising efforts and community initiatives
• Maintain a clean, organized workout space and ensure equipment is in good condition
• Arrive early to set up and create a welcoming atmosphere before each class
• Develop inclusive, appropriate playlists and confidently operate audio equipment
• Utilize personal devices to connect with YMCA technology platforms as needed
• Present a professional image by wearing appropriate and functional athletic attire
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of the program

Child Abuse Prevention Expectations:

• Follow all policies related to maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth
• Complete required abuse risk management training annually
• Report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior immediately
• Comply with all mandated reporting requirements
• Adhere to all job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities

Minimum Requirements:

• Current national group exercise certification (or ability to obtain within a supervisor-approved timeframe)
• Specialty certifications as required for specific class formats
• Ability to lead and actively participate in group exercise classes
