What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Program Coordinator position at YMCA?
This position is responsible for developing, organizing and implementing aquatic programs, and maintaining a safe and hazard-free aquatics environment. This position supervises staff and volunteers and may manage community and vendor agreements and relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, recreation, business, related field or equivalent work experience.
- Two to four years of experience in program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Demonstrated computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
- Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
- Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- Current Iowa Certified Pool Operator – with in the first 90 days if hired
- Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certifications or equivalent - prior to starting if hired
- Intro to Y’s Cause & Culture Online Course - prior to starting if hired
- YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred; or must achieve within two years from start.
- Additional t raining to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to talk, hear, sit, use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands. The employee is often required to lift up to ten pounds of weight, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job includes close and distance vision, and may at times require peripheral vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. This position usually works in an office and/or fitness oriented environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces. This position works a standard work week, but additionally will often work evening, weekend, and additional hours to accommodate management of program activities and representation of the organization at events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Create, develop, and implement new programs.
- Build and maintain relationships with members and community organizations.
- Manage assigned program areas and activities, ensuring programs comply standards and methods of operation and continually strive to attain the highest possible level of quality.
- Assist in marketing to promote programs and activities.
- Assist in the identification of target audiences for programs.
- Prepare, submit, and monitor the budget.
- Hire, manage, and train staff, along with determining staffing needs.
