What are the responsibilities and job description for the After School Program Assistant - Henry Y - Hixson Middle School position at YMCA?
The ROAR with the Y after school program (ASP) is a collaboration between the YMCA, Hixson Middle School (HMS), and Northside Neighborhood House (NNH). ROAR with the Y is designed to provide HMS students with academic support and social-emotional growth. We work closely with HMS Leadership and NNH to provide support that reflects the unique needs of HMS students. Through ROAR with the Y, students have a safe and engaging space to strengthen their academics skills, build meaningful relationships, explore new interests, and access resources that promote overall well-being.
The ASP Assistant works Monday through Thursday, from 1:15 to 5:15pm, on days Hamilton County Schools are in session. Up to four hours one Friday a month may also be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist ASP Manager in planning and implementation of a variety of learning and social experiences that promote positive student wellbeing and development.
- Lead and supervise students in both small and large group activities.
- Create an engaging environment that fosters safety and a sense of belonging for all participants.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and leading recreational and enrichment activities, including arts and crafts, sports, etc.
- Prepare and distribute snacks or meals, adhering to any dietary restrictions or CACFP guidelines.
- Assist students in working on and completing school assignments and projects.
- Assist ASP Manager in maintaining program standards of student behavior to promote effective participation in activities.
- Support and encourage program volunteers in developing and engaging in positive mentoring relationships with students.
- Set up and maintain a clean and organized environment for students; model and involve students in cleaning and organizing activity areas before, during and after use.
- Participate in regular staff meetings.
- Actively promote, embody, and uphold YMCA core values in all interactions with students, staff, and parents.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Some college experience preferred.
- Experience working with middle school aged children in a group setting preferred.
- Reliable transportation to and from required trainings.
- Proficiency with computers to use web-based timekeeping, Microsoft Share Drive, and learning management software.
- Basic computer/Chromebook navigation skills.
- Ability to lead and participate in activities in both indoor and outdoor settings, at various temperatures.
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, stoop, bend, crouch, lift (up to 50 pounds)
