Do you believe young people deserve strong mentors and engaging learning opportunities? At YMCA Y Scholars, we are seeking caring, energetic Group Leaders to guide K–8 students during the 2025–2026 school year.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to make an impact, develop leadership skills, and grow within a mission-centered organization.

Quick Facts

  • Start: Immediate
  • End: June 2026 (with possible summer extensions)
  • Pay Rate: $23/hour (part-time, non-exempt)
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1:00–6:30 PM (Wednesdays begin at 12:45 PM)
  • Weekly Hours: 26–28
  • Locations: Elementary and middle schools in Richmond, San Pablo, and El Sobrante (map: http://map.ymcayscholars.org)
  • Extras: YMCA membership, training and development opportunities, and hiring priority for summer and next school year

As a Group Leader, you will:

  • Lead a classroom of 15–20 students in enrichment, recreation, and academics
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that encourage curiosity and creativity
  • Build a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students
  • Track daily attendance and maintain accurate records
  • Collaborate with fellow staff to ensure a positive and consistent program experience

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 48 completed college units OR passing score on the Instructional Aide Exam (support available)
  • DOJ and FBI background clearance
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 30 days of hire (training provided at no cost)

  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities
  • Must occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
  • Frequent bending & standing
  • Able to walk for long periods of time
  • Visual ability to clearly monitor activities in both indoor and outdoor settings
  • Mobility to quickly respond to emergencies
