Seeking: Group Assistants for the YMCA Y Scholars Program
Do you believe in the power of education and community? The YMCA of the East Bay is seeking Group Assistants to join the Y Scholars Program. In this role, you will support students and staff in a safe, engaging, and enriching afterschool environment.
Group Assistants are essential to our program. Working alongside Group Leaders, you will help create experiences that combine academics and enrichment, empowering students to develop their voice, leadership, and confidence.
Position Overview
Start Date: Immediate
End Date: June 2026 (with potential summer opportunities)
Compensation: $18 to $21 per hour, part-time, non-exempt
Schedule: Minimum of two days per week, Monday through Friday, 1:30 PM–6:30 PM (Wednesdays start at 1:15 PM)
Hours: 10 to 25 hours per week
Location: Assigned to one to three elementary or middle schools in Richmond, San Pablo, El Sobrante, or Oakland

Key Responsibilities
As a Group Assistant, you will support classroom activities and program operations, including:
- Supervising students to maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment
- Assisting with homework, STEAM projects, English language arts, sports, and creative arts
- Recording attendance and supporting program documentation
- Participating in school-site events and enrichment activities
- Modeling positive behavior and reinforcing age-appropriate expectations
- Supporting program quality, safety, and cleanliness standards
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Completion of 48 college units or passing score on the Instructional Aide Examination (support provided if needed)
- Ability to pass DOJ and FBI background checks
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications completed within 30 days of hire (training provided at no cost)

- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities
