Part of a team responsible for planning and delivering high-quality classes or programs within their area of specialty.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Interpret, communicate, and promote the YMCA mission, values, and goals to participants, staff, and the community.

Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with participants, members, and coworkers.

Plan and prepare lessons, activities, and class content appropriate to the program’s purpose and participant group.

Provide clear instruction, guidance, and support, adapting methods to accommodate various skill levels and abilities.

Maintain a safe, encouraging, and welcoming atmosphere during all class sessions.

Begin and end all sessions on time.

Provide appropriate demonstrations and explanations for concepts or skills being taught.

Ensure proper use, care, and setup/cleanup of program spaces and equipment.

Assist in the promotion and marketing of assigned classes and programs.

Monitor and report any safety concerns, facility issues, or participant needs to the supervising Coordinator or Director.

Maintain all certifications, continuing education requirements, and/or qualifications relevant to the program being taught.

Attend staff meetings and training as scheduled.

Execute Branch emergency plan as necessary.

Other duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The In-House Instructor is responsible for the effective instruction and participant experience within their specific program area. They report directly to the Wellness Director (or designated Program Director) and communicate regularly regarding schedules, needs, progress, and concerns. The instructor supports YMCA initiatives related to membership engagement and retention.

May be required to demonstrate movements, techniques, or physical tasks, stand/walk for extended periods, or lift up to 25 pounds depending on class type.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience leading or instructing in the relevant specialty area preferred.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to teach and motivate others.

Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and positive relationship-building skills.
