Job Description
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for leading recruiting and talent acquisition efforts for the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee by developing sourcing strategies, building candidate pipelines, and partnering with hiring managers to attract and hire qualified candidates. In addition to managing the recruitment process, this role supports broader Human Resources functions as needed, including employee relations, benefits administration, and staff development initiatives, while ensuring a positive employee experience and maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience
1–3 years of recruiting, talent acquisition, or sourcing experience; nonprofit experience preferred
PHR Or SHRM Certification Preferred But Not Required
Experience using job boards, applicant tracking systems, and recruiting platforms preferred

Maintains discretion and professionalism when handling confidential or sensitive information

Essential Functions
Talent Acquisition & Recruiting
- Lead recruitment efforts including job postings, candidate sourcing, and screening
- Source candidates through multiple channels including job boards, community partnerships, networking, and resume databases
- Conduct initial phone screens and candidate assessments
- Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and recommend effective recruiting strategies
- Represent the YMCA at job fairs, hiring events, and community outreach activities
- Develop and maintain relationships with colleges, workforce development agencies, and community partners to build candidate pipelines
- Track recruitment metrics and assist in improving hiring processes and timelines
- Provide support with HR initiatives including benefits administration, onboarding coordination, employee relations matters, and staff development programs
- Assist with HR documentation, reporting, and administrative processes including, but not limited to benefits and retirement, employee discipline, FMLA, and employee record keeping.
- Provide high-quality customer service and support to YMCA employees and managers
- Assist with special HR projects and initiatives that support organizational goals
