Position Summary 

Under the supervision of the YEF Specialist, YEF Community Funders are responsible for reviewing and disbursing YEF grants and mini-grants across the School Year, Spring, Winter, and Summer cycles. Community Funders will read and score grant applications, interview applicants, and use a consensus-based model to make funding decisions. They will also support outreach, promote grant opportunities, help recruit project applicants, plan community meetings, conduct site visits, and assist with onboarding and end-of-year events. 

 

Job Responsibilities 

Grantmaking & Program Support 

  • Read and score grant applications. 
  • Interview grant applicants from a variety of backgrounds, including high school–aged and transitional-aged youth. 
  • Participate in consensus-based funding decisions. 
  • Plan and facilitate grantee gatherings (orientations, interview sessions, and end-of-year events). 
  • Facilitate workshops, including how-to sessions on completing grant applications and developing project ideas. 
  • Conduct site visits for grantees as assigned. 
  • Communicate with grantees and youth applicants via email and phone. 
  • Support additional YEF initiatives, such as outreach, marketing, recruitment, and social media planning. 

Administrative & Organizational Responsibilities 

  • Complete administrative duties (e.g., copying, printing, reviewing reports, organizing documents, sending emails). 
  • Complete all required ADP LMS safety training and Y-USA eLearning before the first onsite shift. 
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

The work environment for this position includes a combination of office-based tasks, in‑person meetings, and occasional off-site activities such as community events and site visits. Youth Community Funders will spend time working at desks or tables reviewing applications, using computers, and completing administrative tasks, as well as participating in group discussions, interviews, and workshops. The role may require moving between different program spaces, setting up materials for meetings or events, and carrying light items such as paperwork, supplies, or promotional materials. Some activities may take place in schools, community centers, or outdoor settings depending on program needs. Physical demands are generally moderate and may include sitting for extended periods, standing or walking during events, and engaging in interactive workshop facilitation

Salary Description 

The Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF) Community Funder position offers a compensation range of $22.00- $23.00 per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.    

Qualifications:

Qualifications 

Required Skills and Experience:  

  • Must be a high school–aged youth under 18. 
  • Must live in or attend school in San Francisco, California. 
  • Able to obtain a work permit. 
  • Available Mondays (5:00–7:00 PM)Wednesdays (4:00–7:00 PM) year-round, and occasional Fridays and Saturdays with advance notice. 
  • Able to attend in-person work at required times. 

 

Preferred Qualifications (Optional) 

  • Experience participating in teams, youth groups, or collaborative projects. 
  • Strong communication skills. 
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.
