Position Summary 

The Tailor Made Violence Interrupter (VI) is a key position within the Urban Services YMCA program that supports youth as they transition into healthy adulthood. The role provides case management, mentorship, enrichment activities, referrals, and additional social services to youth and their families in San Francisco. 

The Violence Interrupter monitors students’ academic progress, attendance, and case plan goals, and advocates for needed services and resources. The position also connects students to community and city/county programs while maintaining detailed records of case notes, services delivered, and progress toward goals. The Violence Interrupter works with SFUSD middle and high school students before, during, and after school, supporting youth throughout the district. 

 
Job Responsibilities 

Case Management & Client Support 

  • Manage a caseload of 20–25 participants, providing one-on-one and group sessions as needed.  
  • Conduct intakes, assessments, and case planning for youth ages 11–18, following YMCA program standards and safety protocols.  
  • Support participants in setting short- and long-term goals and connect them to additional services.  
  • Maintain accurate case files, including demographic, academic, attendance information, and case notes.  
  • Track participant data and program statistics.  
  • Provide youth and families with information and referrals to community resources. 

 

Community Engagement & Outreach 

  • Encourage community involvement, civic engagement, and family participation in youth programs.  
  • Conduct outreach and attend community meetings to increase awareness of YMCA services.  
  • Build and sustain partnerships with YMCA collaborators, local businesses, employment agencies, and community organizations. 

 

Program Development & Support 

  • Lead or facilitate information and support groups as needed. 

 

Professional Development & Meetings 

  • Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and case conferences to support ongoing growth and program quality. 

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

The work environment is primarily based in schools and community settings, with a mix of office and fieldwork. The position requires frequent interaction with youth, families, and community members, and the ability to work in diverse, sometimes challenging environments. The role may involve occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Flexibility is required to adapt to various settings and situations, with occasional evening or weekend hours depending on program needs.

Salary Description 

The hourly wage for Case Manager - Tailor Made Violence Interrupter position ranges from $27.00 to $29.00, based on industry benchmarking, organizational compensation structures, and alignment with grant fund approvals. Final compensation will be determined by factors such as experience, qualifications, and available funding for the position.

Qualifications:

Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age. 
  • AA degree or equivalent professional and community experience. 
  • Availability Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.  
  • Two or more years of experience in social work, youth development, psychology, sociology, or related fields.  
  • Knowledge of case management best practices.  
  • Familiarity with SFUSD and San Francisco communities.  
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and meet program outcomes and deadlines.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including youth with varied cultural, socioeconomic, and personal backgrounds.  
  • Ability to implement youth development practices and assess programs for alignment with organizational goals.  
  • Proficiency with computers, including Windows, Word, Excel, databases, internet tools, and social media.  
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including conflict mediation. Must maintain a professional, positive, and approachable demeanor. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional and community experience. 
  • 3-5 years of experience in social work, case management, youth development, or trauma-informed practices.
