Position Summary
The Swim Instructor/Swim Coach is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality swim instruction and coaching to individuals and groups in accordance with YMCA guidelines and program standards. This role promotes water safety, swimming skills, and personal growth in a positive, inclusive environment that reflects the YMCA’s mission and core values.
Essential Functions

Lead swim lessons or team practices for children and/or adults, adapting teaching methods to participants' varying ages and skill levels.

Instruct participants in swimming techniques, water safety, and proper stroke development.

Monitor and ensure the safety of all participants by enforcing pool rules and maintaining a watchful presence at all times.

Provide clear, constructive feedback to swimmers to help improve their performance and confidence.

Maintain accurate attendance, progress records, and incident reports.

Communicate effectively with parents, participants, and staff to provide a positive customer service experience.

Set up, clean, and maintain equipment and the pool area before and after each session.

Attend staff meetings and required training, including CPR, First Aid, and YMCA aquatic safety certifications.

Promote and represent the YMCA mission, values, and programs in a professional and positive manner.
Qualifications
Qualifications

Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding or Safety Training for Swim Coaches (or willingness to obtain).

YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent (preferred).

Prior experience teaching swim lessons or coaching swim teams strongly preferred.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to engage and motivate participants of all ages and abilities.

Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Physical Requirements

Ability to swim and demonstrate all major strokes.

Physically able to be in the pool for extended periods.

Ability to lift equipment and assist participants as needed.

Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and communicate effectively.

Position may require early morning, evening, and/or weekend hours.
