What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kid Zone Staff position at YMCA of Orange County?
The YMCA of Orange County is looking to hire a year-round Kid Zone Assistant for our Laguna Niguel Family YMCA. The Kid Zone Staff is responsible for the YMCA Kids Zone program, including implementing health and safety standards, ensuring program quality, supervising children, meeting programmatic standards, and providing excellent customer service. We are looking for individuals who are outgoing and able to engage with children and families while creating a safe, fun, and welcoming environment.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure health & safety standards are met daily (i.e. opening/closing checks, excluding ill children, sanitizing toys, removing possible dangers)
- Report incidents promptly, including mandatory child abuse reporting
- Provide supervision that is visual, proactive and interactive including monitoring headcounts and ratios
- Implement age-appropriate child guidance practices
- Follow posted activity calendars and schedules; be prepared to lead activities daily
- Follow enrollment and attendance procedures outlined in Kid Zone Standard Operating Procedures
- Provide excellent customer service to members and follow up on concern
- Facilitate member involvement through volunteer participation and development
- Build professional relationships with members and staff by modeling Y values to others
- Participate in branch and department events and meetings as assigned
- Carry out all duties in a honest, ethical and professional manner
- Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule:
This is a part-time position, and we are looking for applicants who are available and flexible during the following shift times:
- Monday - Friday 8:15am - 11:45am
- Monday - Thursday 4:15pm -7:45pm
Staff may also be asked to work an occasional Saturday morning shift from 8:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and/or a Saturday evening shift from 4:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., as shifts rotate and special events occur.
Qualifications:Hiring Criteria
The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Please note that the minimum qualifications may vary based upon the department size and/or geographic location.
Experience & Certifications:
- CPR and First Aid Certification (taught and paid for by the YMCA)
- Must be at least 16 years of age with a valid work permit
- 2 years previous work experience with children ages 6 weeks to 11 years strongly preferred
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal communication skills & strong customer and results orientation
- Ability to interact effectively at all ages, levels, and across diverse cultures
- Ability to be an effective member of project teams

Salary : $17 - $19
