Position Summary
The Day Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the facility during operating hours. This role provides ongoing support to staff and members by ensuring that key areas remain tidy, stocked, and presentable throughout the day. The Day Porter plays an essential role in upholding the organization’s standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and order in high‑traffic areas, including lobbies, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, program spaces, and common areas
- Perform continuous restroom checks and restocking of supplies (soap, paper goods, etc.)
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces throughout the day
- Empty trash and recycling and ensure proper disposal
- Respond promptly to cleaning requests or spills to ensure safety
- Support setup and breakdown of rooms for programs, meetings, and events
- Keep entrances, walkways, and outdoor entry areas neat and clear
- Monitor cleaning supplies and communicate restock needs
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service to members, staff, and visitors
- Assist facility staff with light maintenance tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Prior custodial, porter, or facility support experience preferred
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift, and carry supplies throughout the shift
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude
Schedule:
Job Shift: Mon.-Fri.
Two shifts: 7AM-10AM or 8pm-11pm
Work Environment
• Fast‑paced, public‑facing environment
• Requires regular movement throughout indoor and outdoor facility spaces
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position requires physical labor both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Must be able to move equipment, climb ladders, shovel snow, and operate tools or light machinery as needed. The schedule may include early mornings or evenings based on facility needs.
