Position Summary
The YMCA of Metro North – Torigian Y Academy is seeking an experienced and dedicated EEC Certified Toddler/Preschool Teacher with strong skills in supporting children who exhibit challenging behaviors. This educator will help foster a positive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment while upholding the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
The ideal candidate will be deeply knowledgeable in EEC regulations, understand trauma-responsive and strength-based practices, and be committed to building strong relationships with children and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with YMCA educational standards.
- Utilize proactive and positive behavior guidance techniques to support children with challenging behaviors.
- Partner with families, teaching teams, and specialists to develop and carry out Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as needed.
- Ensure full compliance with EEC licensing regulations, classroom supervision policies, health and safety standards, and YMCA procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including child observations, incident and behavior reports, and developmental progress notes.
- Model and promote social-emotional development through SEL strategies and YMCA character-building practices.
- Support the classroom environment by implementing visual schedules, individualized routines, and calming strategies.
- Maintain open, professional communication with families regarding concerns, progress, and classroom activities.
- Participate actively in staff meetings, training, and YMCA professional development opportunities.
- Uphold the YMCA mission, program goals, and commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all children and families.
Qualifications
- EEC Teacher Certification in Toddler and/or Preschool required.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in early childhood education; experience addressing challenging behaviors strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of EEC regulations and early childhood best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to implement positive behavior guidance, trauma-informed approaches, and classroom management strategies.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to reliably work a 40-hour week.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., sit on the floor, and actively engage with young children.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SEL programs, PBIS, or restorative practices.
- Training in behavior support frameworks such as CPI, Conscious Discipline, or equivalent.
- Experience working in a diverse, inclusive childcare setting.
Salary : $24 - $26
