Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Program Director 3 will be responsible for leadership over a specific region (Jackson, TN), for School Age programs that ensure the participants’ safety at all times and foster children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth. The Program Director 3 will maintain positive relationships with YMCA staff, school staff, and School Age participants. Additionally, the Program Director will serve as a leadership role in their region over such matters such as training, interviewing and/or personnel recruitment.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position ensures the successful operation of an assigned portfolio of multiple before and after school (school year) and camp (summer & breaks) sites. Leadership responsibilities include program quality, program promotion, personnel supervision & recruitment and community relations.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the effective operation of school-age before/after-school and camp programs
  • Provide guidance, coaching and supervision to site staff in areas including, but not limited to:
  • Planning and implementation of programming
  • Providing a high quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum
  • Ensuring programs are in compliance to state/county licensing and agency regulations.
  • Providing support to site staff as needed in ensuring program enrollment is maintained at appropriate levels.
  • Performance management & coaching
  • Responsible for planning and conducting of program tours and periodic open house/registration events.
  • Ensure compliance in all areas, such as maintaining accurate and complete records.
  • Planning of parent involvement events (i.e. Parent Group, picnics, holidays, and parent/child activities).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with state childcare licensing agencies, school administration, community partners and parent groups.
  • Supervises site staff.
  • Partners with Leadership in planning and coordinating community engagement and partnership events.
  • Ensure quality across functions such as partnerships, program implementation, and compliance with DHS.
  • Contributes to fiscal management and compliance with identified financial targets.
  • Oversees staff scheduling, payroll processes, and conducts reporting for variances.
  • Develop strategies to drive enrollment.
  • Leads management of grant programs and special funding.
  • Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner, seeking guidance from supervisor(s) and peer Childcare Directors as needed.
  • Evaluate sites in areas including, but not limited to, proper implementation of curriculum and lesson planning, program quality control, and recruitment and retention of program participants.
  • Assure compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Model superior communication and leadership to their team.
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign at assigned school sites.
  • Attends and participates in assigned staff meetings and special events to provide a collaborative and cohesive approach to the YMCA’s vision and mission.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Executive Director/ Senior Vice President to meet the changing needs of the program.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
  • Superior supervisory skills and an enthusiastic personality with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, members and participants to create a culture of service within our program sites
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Five or more years of YMCA program and/or childcare experience preferred (with some of this time being in a leadership role). Comparable experience in other organizations may be considered.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA) certificate for completing thirty hours of orientation training, or the equivalent as recognized by the Department and four years of experience in child development or related experience; OR
  • Two years of college (30 hours of which shall be in business or management, child or youth development, early childhood education or related field) and two years of experience in a group setting; OR
  • Four-year degree and one year of full-time (paid or unpaid) experience in a group setting

Work Schedule

The full-time work schedule for this position is generally Monday through Friday though evenings, and weekends work may be required. Hours will vary based on the before and after school and camp schedules.

This position is a position within the childcare team and will be called into work in inclement weather or unusual circumstances deemed necessary by the association leadership.
